"CGC Genetics is now the first Portuguese private laboratory to receive accreditation in medical genetics. This is a distinction awarded by IPAC (Portuguese Institute of Accreditation) in a process that began in 2015.
The accreditation received by the internationally recognized laboratory for the diagnosis of genetic diseases is based on the international standard ISO 15189, used to evaluate clinical laboratories around the world. The technical skills and good practices carried out by CGC Genetics, Portugal's oldest private genetics laboratory, are thus certified at all levels.
For the attribution of this distinction, IPAC evaluated all components of the laboratory that interfere in the production of data related to the tests and consecutively with the results. Accreditation gives customers quality assurance and competence, due to the high degree of requirement of the normative.
In recent years, CGC Genetics has made a number of investments worth EUR 3 million, including last-generation equipment in "New Generation Sequencing" (NGS), which allow, in a single test, to sequence a gene, several genes or the complete exome. This represents a significant advance in genetic diagnostics, reducing deadlines and costs.
For CEO CGC Genetics, Purificação Tavares, this' accreditation is taken as the corollary of the entire investment. We have always had high technical competence, but now, with this accreditation, we can demonstrate it beyond any subjectivity."
