CGC Genetics Award ‘Professor Doutor Amândio Tavares’, created in June 2006 to reward innovation works in the field of Medical Genetics, was delivered June 29th, during the 17th Conference SinASE, by the President of the Portuguese Parliamentary Health Commission, Dr. Maria de Belém Roseira.


The International Jury, composed by Prof. Jorge Sequeiros, Prof. Roberto Giugliani, Prof. Victor Penchaszadeh, Prof. Feliciano Ramos and Prof. José Rueff, rewarded the following works:

1st Prize: ‘Cytological and Expression Studies and Quantitative Analysis of the Temporal and Stage-Specific Effects of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone and Testosterone During Cocultures of the Normal Human Seminiferous Epithelium’ delivered to Dr. Rosália Maria Pereira de Oliveira e Sá, from Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar , University of Porto (ICBAS, UP)

2nd Prize: ‘Genetic diagnostics and oncogenetics research’, delivered to Dr. Manuel Teixeira, Director of the Genetic Department of IPOPFG, E.P.E.

3rd Prize: ‘Ataxia with Oculomotor Apraxia (AOA): development of new genetic tests’, delivered to Dr. Maria Clara Barcelos de Morais Barbot, UnIGENe researcher – IBMC / Head of the Pediatric Neurology service.
