Quality Certificates

In 2004, CGC’s Management team implemented a Quality Management System and received ISO NP 9001 certification to ensure that the organization operated on a strict Quality policy.

In October 2008, CGC renewed the Certification for the Quality Management System in following areas: Genetic Counseling, Molecular Diagnostic Testing, Cytogenetics, Prenatal Screening and Anatomical Pathology.

In 2008, responding to a challenge of optimizing the internal processes and focus on objectives and long-term strategic plans, CGC prepared to implement a Research, Development and Innovation Management System (“Sistema de Gestão da Qualidade e inovação” - SGIDI) according to NP 4457 standards. By February 2009, CGC became the first Portuguese Laboratory with a certified Research, Development and Innovation Management System. The scope of the certification is: research, development and innovation of products, processes, methods, organizational knowledge of services and Human Genetics tests. This measure proved to be one of the most important steps taken by CGC, merging into a single system the most critical parameters of business: Quality and Innovation.

The Quality Management System and SGID merged to form the System of Quality Management and Innovation (SGQI) - reflecting the mission of CGC Genetics Quality and Innovation Policy based on five principles:
• Assure Quality Services
• Innovation
• Team maximization
• Ensuring maintenance of SGQI
• Increase services offered

This has ensured a spirit of the continuous improvement, innovation and technical rigor that has always characterized CGC.

A strict quality policy and capacity development of technology for new tests, has enabled CGC to become CLIA certified - Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, an U.S. Federal Certification, authorized in 1998 by the U.S. Congress aiming to establish quality standards in laboratories working with human samples and that provide test results for medical diagnosis in the Country.

Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulate all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the United States through CLIA. The objective of CLIA program is to establish quality standards for all laboratory tests, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, punctuality and reliability of test results, regardless of where the analysis was performed.

Clinical Laboratory License for the U.S. state of California since 2009. CGC is the first genetics laboratory in Portugal with specific clinical laboratory license to operate in California. The license became particularly important because California legislation severely restricts the access of companies to provide health services, enforcing the strict requirements for this purpose.
