At a ceremony attended by private sector executives and public sector officials, CGC Geneticis of Portugal opened its U.S. base in Newark.
The company had been prepared to invest in Texas but the state's International Trade Department presented a portfolio of sites, programs, and resources designed to attract the firm and help it grow in New Jersey. Based on the facts presented, CGC chose a location in the New Jersey Institute of Technology Enterprise Development Center in Newark, bringing 15 new, high-paying technology jobs into the state.
CGC Genetics is an 18-year-old global company that has developed over 1,500 clinical genetic laboratory tests in areas concerning molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, prenatal/pediatric screening and cancer, and personalized medicine. Last year, the firm established an affiliation agreement with the Institute of Genomic Medicine (IGM), at the UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School in Newark. CGC and IGM share complementary genetic diagnostics technologies, a comprehensive broad selection of clinical tests that cover almost every genetic test available, as well as a significant R&D infrastructure for the rapid development and availability of new tests to CGC clients and partners.
