CGC Award Professor Doutor Amândio Tavares, created in June 2006 to reward innovation works in the field of Medical Genetics was delivered May 26th, during the 16th Conference SinASE, by the Portuguese Minister of Health Dr. Ana Jorge
The Prize Winners:
The International Jury, composed by Prof. Jorge Sequeiros, Prof. José Rueff, Prof. Maria do Céu Machado, Prof. Roberto Giugliani e Prof. Victor Penchaszadeh, rewarded the following works:
•1st Prize: New technique for ß-Talessemia e Hb variants on peripheral blood samples, delivered to Dr. Letícia Ribeiro and Dr. Celeste Bento, Hematology Department, Centro Hospitalar de Coimbra.
•2nd Prize: Genetic reasearch applied to retin degenerative diseases, delivered to Dr. Susana Maia-Lopes, Dr. Eduardo Silva and Dr. Miguel Castelo-Branco, Hospitais Universitários de Coimbra and Instituto Biomédico de Investigação da Luz e da Imagem (IBILI).
•3rd Prize: Development of a simple method for screening the 1st portuguese mutation on BRCA2 gene, delivered to Dr. Fátima Vaz and Dr. Patrícia Machado, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa.
