Clinical Genomics

The Laboratory of Clinical Genomics applies the most advanced technologies available for genetic diagnosis. With microarray technology, the lab develops proprietary products - CGC Mutation Panels, patent pending - for the molecular diagnosis of different disorders. In a unique approach, these tests allow simultaneous screening of several genetic diseases (with overlapping clinical presentations) in a single run. This new approach, screening for the most frequent mutations as the first step, is a way of reducing costs in the diagnosis of some diseases. With reduced turnaround times and capacity to process a large number of samples, the laboratory offers the most efficient and innovative medical genetics testing available.

Molecular Diagnostics

The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory has been evolving with rapidly changing field of medical genetics. Equipped with highly skilled and experienced technicians, the lab offers clinicians a very broad portfolio of genetic tests, ranging from the most prevalent disease pathology to the least common. The lab has strong expertise in Oncology and Pharmacogenetics, supplementing clinical diagnosis and monitoring of patients. This laboratory is also responsible for developing unique tests that are offered by GCC, directed to the diagnosis of rare genetic diseases.

Cytogenetics

The Cytogenetics Laboratory was the first laboratory developed at CGC Genetics. With over 18 years of experience, this lab brings together a team of professionals solely dedicated and specialized in this area, using the latest technology. The laboratory processes about 9,000 tests per year for different medical areas, from Prenatal Diagnosis, Hemato-Oncology, and Pediatrics to Reproductive Medicine, with reduced turnaround times. Currently, the CGC Cytogenetics Laboratory is responsible for more than 35% of all the Prenatal Diagnosis tests performed in Portugal.

Anatomic Pathology

The Laboratory of Anatomic Pathology, directed by Dr. Rosete Nogueira, renowned expert in the field of embryonic-fetal development pathology and vacuum cytology, is one of few laboratories in Portugal with the capacity of providing an effective response for Portuguese needs in fetal pathology. This lab works with the majority of obstetric services at Portuguese hospitals, being the Portuguese benchmark in this area. The integration of this unit with the other laboratories and related technologies, has allowed the development of comprehensive and more complete results with clear benefit to the patient and physician.

Prenatal Screening

CGC introduced Prenatal Screening in Portugal in 1992 and as since led the country in the development of this area. It was the first laboratory to develop 1st trimester screening, the first to apply the collection method by finger prick and the first to implement the approach of Early Prenatal Screening. Over 19,000 samples are processed per year by this lab.
